Stay Cozy and Save Big with S&L Prime A/C & Heating Systems

Can Heat Pumps Be Repaired?

Most HVAC systems utilize either a condensing unit or a heat pump to cool your home/building during the summer, but over time you may need to have your heat pump or condensing unit serviced.

S&L Prime has been providing HVAC installation and repair services to most areas of Maryland for years, and wanted to talk a little bit about heat pumps, when they need to be repaired, and why they need to be repaired.

Should I Repair or Replace?

There’s no correct answer to this question, the best way to find out is to speak with an experienced heat pump repair company, but there are some generalities. If you still hold a warranty on your unit and are experiencing issues, then you should definitely try to have it serviced, and if it can’t be repaired you may be able to get it replaced for free.

If your unit is out of warranty, or if it’s over 10 years old, repairs can still be performed, but the older your unit the more costly the repairs likely will be, which essentially means that every HVAC system/heat pump will reach a point in its life when it becomes more cost-effective to replace rather than repair.

How Often Does Your System Require Service?

If you find that you’re having to have your HVAC system serviced regularly, it may be time to have it replaced. Older systems will need to be repaired more often, and these repairs will add up, eventually eclipsing the high fixed cost of purchasing and installing a new heat pump or a whole new system.
