If you’ve ever had to buy and install a new HVAC system, you know how expensive and difficult of a task this can be, and probably don’t want to go through it again. Whether you have a commercial or residential HVAC system, you want it to last as long as possible, and as someone who’s been providing Marylanders with our HVAC maintenance services for years, we wanted to take some time today to talk about a few different tricks you can use to help your HVAC system last longer.
Clean and Change Your Filters
When was the last time the filter on your HVAC system was replaced? If you don’t know the answer to that question, then it’s probably been a little while. We recommend filters be checked and replaced about every 1 – 3 months, and we recommend you change them even more regularly if you have pets in the home.
Clean Out Your Condensing Unit
Nearly all HVAC systems have an outdoor condensing unit or a heat pump that uses a fan to disperse heat in the summer. These fans regularly get clogged with dirt, dust, pollen, and just general grime. To clean out your condensing unit, you just need to spray it out with a water hose, don’t use a pressure washer, as this could permanently damage your unit. These generally only need to be cleaned once every change of season, or about 4 times a year.
